You’ll notice an Xmos L1 unsynchronised processor for transmitting USB signals 24-bit 192 kHz in an unsynchronised manner, and note that the clock derived from the 800 series of the manufacturer, is realised with discrete components.

Here we will explain a little the anatomy of the piece. The design of this converter is relatively minimal, which did not prevent my colleague Benedict “responsible,” amongst others things, of “stewardship,” to whom the Explorer was addressed, who was quick to have a listen, think of the greater good, and then tamper with the piece. The housing is made of a profile extruded aluminium alloy elliptical section (the same alloy used for the series “reference” Home Cinema 800 manufacturer) and has a flat bottom surface preventing it from rolling. Since publishing details of the anatomy of the Explorer, Meridian saved us the daunting task of trying to open up such a nice little object (and of course, the risk of breaking it!). Courtesy of our privileged position as provider of audio files in all (good) qualities imaginable, we exclusively received The Explorer, the first French available DAC made by the English brand Meridian, which supports all audio formats up to 24-bit 192 khz.įor an explorer, this DAC has pretty well wiped the slate clean since it uses none other than the PCM5102 numeric conversion chip, the most powerful that we have so far encountered, from Texas Instruments, which can process files 32-bit 383khz using a conversion stage “to segment” (we wonder why it doesn’t carry the Burr Brown mark?) dispensing with the use of an active post-filter operational amplifier.
